Website now Live

The UKIP Rushmoor website is now up and running and you can find it here:

Many thanks to Mike Gascoigne who has been working on the project. The plan is that it will run side by side with this blog although the subject matter will have a different focus. On the website you can find out more about the area we cover, how to get in contact and who is who.

Southwood Crescent Development

The comment period for the Southwood Crescent housing development closes tomorrow. Site notices were put up around the site in late October requesting comments from the public by the 16th November 2016. However according to Dave Bell (UKIP Councillor for West Heath Ward) local residents do not recall receiving recent notification from the council. Dave has been working with UKIP volunteers to leaflet local residents and make them aware of the issue.
The re-development of Southwood Crescent will create 159 new dwellings, with a potential occupancy of 422 people. The only proposed access to the development will be from Southwood Road which is already a busy road and traffic congestion may therefore be an issue. The possible future loss of the Number 9 bus (see previous posts on this blog) is also a factor affecting this area.
Plans for the development can be found online by accessing the Rushmoor Council website and searching for planning application 16/00837/FULPP (use this link). There are 98 documents available, of which you may only want to see 3, The Proposed Site Layout, The Development Entrance Visibility Splay, and The Transport Assessment.
Dave Bell says that he has an assurance from the Principal Planning Officer that comments will be accepted from the public after the date of the 16th November, but comments must be made as soon as possible. You can also use the link above to provide comments.

October Branch Meeting

This meeting was held on the 25th October. The meeting was opened by Gill Bailley and quickly moved to the first item of business.

Mark Staplehurst gave an update on County Council issues. Congratulations are due as he has now been appointed Deputy Leader of the UKIP group on Hampshire Council. A major success for Marks campaigning has been that the Number 9 bus route, which was threatened with closure will be kept open for another 6 months. Hopefully this will give time for a permanent solution to be found. On a separate topic, the opening hours for the Household Waste Recycling Centres have been cut. This happened despite UKIP opposition. There are concerns that fly tipping may increase and Mark is planning to survey users of the facility to find out what they think. Mark has also been busy on the streets in the Farnborough West Division cutting hedges and supporting an outing for older residents.

The meeting moved on to a discussion of the upcoming UKIP Leadership election (once again!) and also the forthcoming Hampshire County Council Elections which will be held in May 2017.

In the meantime group members are busy distributing the "Lets Brexit" leaflet and also Councillor's newsletters. There was also discussion of this blog and the planned website.

A social event is being planned for sometime in the New Year and a membership campaign is also coming soon.

There was time for tea and a choice of cake before everyone went home.
